First of six videos, Platform-7’s John McKiernan gives a short introduction of his personal views of this intervention David Lee Morgan is a poet of immense power and his use of words engross audiences wherever he performs. Jonathan Lockwood is an abstract time-based artist who has created a number of deeply thought provoking artworks on previous Platform-7 interventions. Because of a heavy workload and commitments, Jonathan was unable to partake in 2013 event until I sent him a video of David performing What is to be Done. Jonathan was captivated and a new collaboration was born despite the two men never having met up to that point. The resulting six videos are original on many levels, cleverly weaving the underlying themes of Silent Cacophony with an anarchy that pervades the work of both artists’. Dismembering the poem, disrupting the reverence that is often attested to this art form, often without merit, is something Platform-7 has encouraged numerous times over the years. On this occasion, the entire performance went a step further, with new collaborators, Andrew Rowe (Enlarged Jack Plug) and Tom Westbrook, the interruptions create an unsettling experience. David Lee Morgan performing is evolutionary poem Word interrupted approximately every 9 minutes with telephone callers dialling in. The telephone caller Rudy Francis was asked to talk live in to a hall with reference to the 1915 Zeppelin attacks in the UK. Rudy was then forced to collaborate with Andrew Rowe and his enlarged jack plug.
