David Lee Morgan: Reflects on Remembrance and Silent Cacophony Intervention

Poet David Lee Morgan reflects from Boston, USA on the idea of Remembrance and his intervention for Silent Cacophony involving all manner of media. The great thing about this event for me was the chance to collaborate with other talented artists across different art forms and to produce a live event that combined many different technologies and human skills: words, voice, live performance, recorded performance, audience participation editing, talking, new instrument construction, video, telephone, internet, image projection and live audience. (I'm sure I've left out a few.) And it was cool to be part of a performance across wide distances... like the Atlantic Ocean. I do not personally believe in the idea of Remembrance Day as it is generally celebrated, because it commemorates the loss and sacrifice of brave men and women without giving voice to rage and anger at the fact that they were being exploited to defend nations and empires that were actually the enemies of the people of the world. But this event gave scope for a debate about this, without disrespecting those who made the sacrifices.
